A real departure for me, this book was designed as a basic tutorial to put players starting out in the game on to the right track. Former World Champion Mikhail Tal once said that he loved to read beginner’s books as he always learnt something new, and this book occupies the same place for me. Whenever I feel confused by the complexities of chess, I like to take this book off the shelf and reread the sensible, simple advice I gave.
